Quss ibn Sa'ida of the Banu Iyad tribe was one of the hunafa', the few Arabs before Islam who turned away from idol worship to Allah. He would come to Makkah for the hajj and preach against idolatry. He was also known as one of the most eloquent poets of his time, and his language was said to resemble that of the Qur'an. The Prophet ﷺ saw him when the Prophet ﷺ was a young man in his twenties and Quss was an old man of around 80 or 90.
Quss ibn Sa'ida was a preacher of the tribe of Banu Iyad. He was a hanif, one of the few Arabs before Islam who turned away from idols to worship Allah alone. The Prophet ﷺ had heard him preach when the Prophet ﷺ was a young man in his twenties. About 40 years later, in the 9th year of the Hijrah, a delegation of Banu Iyad came to Madinah to accept Islam. The Prophet ﷺ asked them, "Where is Quss ibn Sa'ida?" They told him that Quss had died long before. The Prophet ﷺ said, "I remember him on a red camel and he had a mesmerizing speech. Can anybody amongst you remind me of it?" The tribesmen recited the words they remembered, and the Prophet ﷺ approved of what Quss had said.
