Now married to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
~Around the 3rd year of the Hijrah · 3 AH
Zaynab bint Khuzayma al-Hilaliyah was not of the Quraysh but of the Banu Hilal of Najd. Even before Islam she was known as Umm al-Masakin, "Mother of the Poor", because she cared for the poor and for orphans.
According to one report, her husband was Ubaydah ibn al-Harith. He was one of the three Muslims who fought in the single combat that opened the Battle of Badr. His leg was cut off, and he later died of the wound. After her husband's death, the Prophet ﷺ married her, probably around the 3rd year after the Hijrah.
She lived only a few months as the Prophet ﷺ's wife, dying in Rabi' al-Awwal of the 4th year of the Hijrah, one of only two of his wives (with Khadija RA) to die during his lifetime, and the first buried in Baqi' al-Gharqad.
